ABOUT

OUR STORY

At Evergreen Volleyball Club, we believe every athlete deserves the opportunity to grow and succeed not only in sport but also in life. True development happens when athletes are challenged and supported physically, as well as mentally and emotionally. That is why our programs emphasize comprehensive physical training designed to build strength, agility, and endurance. Alongside skill development, we focus on fostering resilient minds and confident leaders who are prepared to face challenges both on and off the court.

Evergreen was co-founded by educators and experienced coaches Shandelle Reeves and Tayler Ostapowich, who began their journeys as athletes themselves. Tayler’s background playing for the University of Alberta Bears Football and expertise in physical literacy deeply shape how we design our training programs, ensuring that athletes develop the physical foundation they need to perform safely and effectively.

Shandelle, a former Concordia University Thunder Volleyball captain with degrees in Psychology and Education, brings a unique blend of competitive experience and academic insight. She is passionate about helping athletes develop strategic thinking, leadership skills, and the confidence to thrive under pressure.

Joining them is co-founder Connor Reeves, also a former Thunder captain and educator. He led Evergreen’s first team as the inaugural head coach, bringing a strong focus on building team culture, leadership, and well-rounded athlete development. Connor’s dedication to fostering a positive, supportive environment helps athletes grow both as players and individuals.

Our leadership is further strengthened by board members Cassidy Srogen and Kyle Sabraw, both Concordia Thunder alumni and accomplished coaches in their own right. Their experience and commitment add valuable depth to Evergreen’s coaching and governance.

To complement our volleyball expertise, Toby Zeigler leads our sport-specific physical training. Toby’s background as a professional CFL athlete, for the Edmonton Elks and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, equips him with the knowledge to help athletes build the strength, endurance, and injury prevention strategies necessary to compete at a high level.

We also understand that mental resilience is just as important as physical training. That is why we partner with mental health and sport psychology professionals to provide athletes and coaches with tools to build confidence, focus, and emotional intelligence. These skills empower athletes to overcome obstacles, maintain motivation, and lead with purpose.

At Evergreen, our commitment goes beyond developing athletes’ physical abilities. We nurture young people who are prepared to face any challenge with confidence and integrity, both on the court and in life. Whether your child is just starting out or competing at an elite level, Evergreen supports their journey, builds their confidence, and helps them become the best version of themselves.
